Soon, cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin and Elon Musk’s favorite, the meme crypto dogecoin, will be offered as payment options at some H-E-B grocery stores in Texas.
According to news outlet The Houston Chronicle, currency provider Coin Cloud is set to start putting kiosks in a number of stores in the area where customers can make purchases using digital currencies. These kiosks will also let them buy more coins according to the service provider.
A representative from H-E-B said per their timeline for the development, the pilot program will start in 29 stores around the Houston area that will be equipped with Coin Cloud’s ATMs.
Embracing cryptocurrencies
Over the past few months, even though the crypto market has experienced what is being dubbed as one of the biggest “flash crashes” in history, more businesses are now inclined in embracing cryptos such as bitcoin, giving their customers the option to pay using the digital asset.
At press time, the leading digital currency is trading at $36,120. Its main rival, the ethereum, is changing hands at $2,225. These two, along with the rest of the pack, are trying to make their respective recoveries after losing significant percentages of gains over the past weeks.
While the digital asset class is enjoying an unprecedented surge in popularity, a lot of investors and experts remain skeptical and lack faith in cryptocurrencies due to their extreme volatility and uncertainly around value retention.
Hope for bitcoin
After suffering massively from Elon Musk’s decision to stop Tesla from accepting bitcoin as mode of payment for its vehicles, bitcoin, along with its supporters, hope a better road is ahead of them.
That hope got boosted a bit when the Tesla top honcho said his company remains open in supporting bitcoin, provided it becomes greener and more environmental-friendly.
