The dungeon crawler game, Hades, has been a favorite among players ever since it was first released. Now, it sits at the top of Steam’s list of best-reviewed games in 2020.
2020 is probably the year where most highly-anticipated games failed to meet player expectations. It is also the year filled with tons of surprises from unlikely gems such as Hades.
While established gaming critics provide good insight into how good a game is, most people would just rely on their fellow players when choosing what games to play. And when it comes to PC games, there is no doubt that Steam is among the most trusted and most popular gaming platforms. More than that, the platform itself provides a good insight into the games that people actually enjoy playing.
Hades on Steam’s list of best-reviewed games for 2020
The people at Steam had recently compiled and released a list of the top 150 games on their platform. Note that this list only includes games released in 2020. To determine the rankings, Steam had used a specialized algorithm that assigns scores based on the number of votes a game has received as well as their approval rating.
Now, Steam has revealed that Hades is their best-reviewed game for 2020. The dungeon crawler beat out 149 other great games on the list. And with a vote count of 105,009 votes, it isn’t all that surprising.
The game’s players did enjoy playing the dungeon crawler a lot. And the fact that the game had received numerous nominations at The Game Awards 2020, including Game of the Year, is proof of this.
Currently, the game holds an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam. Fans had shown immense support towards the game, whose protagonist, Zagreus, was added to the Smash Bros. Ultimate roster.
Interestingly, there were fewer Triple-A games on the higher rankings, which mostly consisted of indie games like Phasmophobia.
About the game
Hades has received “universal acclaim” from review aggregator Metacritic. Not only that, numerous publications have regarded it as one of the best games of 2020. This makes the rogue-like RPG a darling of both critics and players alike.
During The Game Awards 2020, the dungeon crawler was nominated for the Game of the Year category. While it failed to win that nomination, it did win Best Action and Best Indie.
Featuring a hack and slash combat system, Hades follows Zagreus, the son of Hades, in his journey to escape from the Underworld and reach Mount Olympus, with the help of other Olympians.
