‘Haikyuu’ season 5’s delay caused by COVID-19, fans in a limbo

Haikyuu’s official website and Twitter account have recently announced the delay of the show’s fifth installment due to the global pandemic.

One of the most well-known sports anime series present today is Haikyuu. This show brings fans a sort of passion and excitement. At the same time, it makes them fall in love with volleyball.

Haikyuu returns for season 5

Because of the series’ tremendous success all over the world, it did not come as a shock after its production team announced its renewal for a fifth season. According to Production IG, the upcoming installment will not bear a new name as per the old trends.

Instead, it will continue with the name Haikyuu To The Top Season 2. Nevertheless, Netflix will adapt it and will stream it online as Haikyuu season 5 after the season ends.

COVID-19 has taken a toll on the series’ production

Previously, there have been speculations that Haikyuu season 5, will premiere in the first week of July 2020. However, the series’ official website and Twitter account have recently confirmed that the forthcoming title will be delayed until a later date.

According to the announcement, the show will be postponing its premiere to better protect the health and safety of all those involved with the production. It is apparent that the threat of the global pandemic has once again taken a toll on another upcoming release. As of press time, there is no new release window or date set for the fifth run of Haikyuu.

What to expect

Fans have seen in the last season how Karasuno excelled in difficult circumstances to reach the nationals. Previous episodes also showed Fukusumo’s entry into the school volleyball team. With this at hand, Fukusumo will likely bolster Karasuno’s play even more as he is a highly-skilled player.

Consequently, fans can expect to witness the rest of the team go against the powerhouse teams of nationals. This includes Nekoma and Fukurodani. The fifth installment will also feature fans’ favorite duo, Hinata and Kageyama, Karasuno’s captain and libero, Sawamura, and Nishinoya.

Moreover, Tsukishima’s blocks, Yamaguchi’s pinching serves, along with Asahi and Tanaka’s attack are expected to score tons of points for Karasuno.

Fans have mixed reactions

The delay caused by the pandemic has yielded mixed reactions from fans. The fact that there is no official release window at the moment makes the sting a bit worse for fans.

However, some devotees are willing to wait as long as necessary to witness the debut of Karasuno’s biggest matches. In addition, some have considered the delay as a blessing in disguise because it gives fans more time to read the manga.
