Harvey Weinstein will not remain in his current fringes and will be transported to Los Angeles instead.
Harvey Weinstein will leave New York despite their petition to stay in the state.
On Tuesday, Weinstein’s defense team tried to overturn the New York City court that wants him out of the state. They reasoned out that the former filmmaker should stay as he is currently receiving medical treatment around the area.
The team also argued that the Los Angeles prosecutors are not ready to handle Weinstein in the area since they have not begun jury selection. Meanwhile, they also highlighted how their client’s extradition paperwork was incorrectly done.
Per the legal team, the paperwork failed to correlate what Weinstein’s charge is in Los Angeles. Since everyone knows that the former director serves 23 years in New York. Thus, a Los Angeles stand trial can actually happen virtually.
To the prosecutors’ response, they argued that Weinstein can still receive medical treatment from anywhere outside New York. They insisted that the defense team should not worry about it since Los Angeles has state-of-the-art medical facilities.
“It’s Los Angeles. It’s not some remote outpost that doesn’t have medical care,” Erie County Assistant District Attorney Colleen Gable said, as quoted by Fox News.
The indictment in April appears similar to the criminal complaint which DA Jackie Lacey filed in January 2020.
What happened to Harvey Weinstein?
The disgraced movie mogul received a 23-year sentence in New York after several assaults he committed. This includes rape and sexual assault in New York and 11 counts in California.
There were five incidents between 2004 and 2013, as well. Once he is proven guilty, he could face up to 140 years of imprisonment.
In one instance, Weinstein, reportedly, assaulted an Italian model at a Beverly Hills hotel before attacking another woman, Lauren Young. The other three assaults on different women all happened at Beverly Hills hotels.
Following the deportation news, several people reacted to the court’s decision and Weinstein’s defense.
One internet user said, “Funny, I don’t remember Harvey using a Walker BEFORE he got caught. Democrats are so transparent.”
Another added, “This is the ultimate penalty and insult that Weinstein could ever get, he has to fly commercial and economy class. Brutal.”
“He’s lucky to be alive after the photo of him and Bill Clinton was shown on the net,” another wrote.
