HBO Max, the latest streaming platform has officially announced a release date. With that announcement, comes a flurry of trailers unveiling some of the upcoming shows.
Despite the coronavirus ongoing disruption to the entertainment industry, 2020 continues to be the year that the streaming war heats up. Just this month, both the mobile-only app Quibi and NBCUniversal’s Peacock debuted. However, the streaming fight will get more serious with WarnerMedia’s upcoming launch of HBO Max.
All about HBO Max streaming platform
WarnerMedia revealed on Tuesday that its entry into the streaming wars, HBO Max, will officially launch on Wednesday, May 27. As a nod to its inclusion of both HBO and non-HBO titles, the tagline for the service will be “Where HBO meets so much more”.
HBO Max will showcase a vast library of existing shows and movies. The new streaming service will feature titles from across Warner’s properties, including Warner Bros., HBO, New Line, DC Entertainment, CNN, TNT, TBS, TruTV, Turner Classic Movies, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Crunchyroll, Rooster Teeth, Looney Tunes, and more.
HBO Max originals and exclusives
HBO Max will drop 50 original titles by the end of 2021. There will be 38 in 2020, with an additional 12 being added for the following year. Among the new shows set to drop this year are the anthology half-hour comedy series.
Some of the titles are Love Life starred by Anna Kendrick, Sesame Street Workshop’s The Not Too Late Show with Elmo, ballroom competition show Legendary, documentary On the Record, Craftopia with YouTube sensation LaurDIY, and fresh Looney Tunes Cartoons.

HBO Max includes Gossip Girl reboot and Friends cast reunion
The long list of highly anticipated offerings is not ending yet as HBO Max will also revive the beloved teen drama, Gossip Girl, eight years after it went off the air. The story follows a new generation of Upper East Siders grappling with the social landscape of New York’s private school life.
Apart from that, HBO also confirmed in February that an unscripted reunion special of Friends stars: Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc will air on the network.
The reunion special was previously scheduled to appear in May as the streaming service debuts, but as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, work on the special was postponed and will premiere at another, as-yet-determined date.
