Blue roses are the most difficult flowers to grow on Animal Crossing: New Horizons. But with a bit of effort and a little help, here’s you can effectively grow them.
Blue roses are definitely a rare find in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. They’re insanely tricky to grow, even more challenging than growing a gold rose. But growing blue roses is far from impossible.
Here is a simple guide to help get Nintendo Switch players started. Take note that this guide only covers how players can grow blue roses. This will not cover the basics and know-how of crossbreeding or genetics in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Obtain red, white, and yellow roses in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Players can spawn blue roses from red (hybrid) roses. However, the process is not as simple as it sounds. The first thing players should do is to get red, white, and yellow rose bags. Players can buy these from Nook’s Cranny if they are available. Leif can also offer these rose bags as well as other players.
Plant separately
The next step would be to plant these roses separately and diagonally with one space apart, similar to a checkerboard. Players should plant the white roses separate from the yellow and red ones in order to produce different colored roses.
The space between these roses encourages crossbreeding to happen.
Water and wait
The next step is to water the plants and wait. Crossbreeding would naturally occur on its own when the right type of flowers are paired right. Players should be able to produce purple and orange roses from this step.
Planting white roses together will produce purple roses. Orange roses, on the other hand, can be produced by crossbreeding red and yellow roses. Planting as many of these plants as possible will increase the chances of success.
Producing red (hybrid) roses
Red (hybrid) roses are the only ones that can produce blue roses. In order to obtain red (hybrid) roses, players should plant purple and orange roses together, again in a diagonal pattern with one space apart.

Wait patiently
Once a player has enough red (hybrid) roses, the next step would be to plant them together. Because obtaining blue roses have a low probability, the best thing to do is wait.
This is probably the most difficult part because producing blue roses could take up to a month and more to happen.
Self-replication in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Once the players obtain blue roses, they do not have to repeat the same process in order to produce more. This is because plants in Animal Crossing: New Horizons self-replicate. This means that players only need a minimum of two blue roses to produce more.
