Charlotte’s biggest comic book convention, HeroesCon will not happen anytime soon due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
The outbreak in the recent coronavirus pandemic has led to the cancellation of many events not only in the US but to the rest of the world.
The Heroes Convention which started in 1982 is the oldest and largest comic book convention in the US. Founded by Shelton Drum, owner of Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find Comic Shop in Charlotte, the convention provides the venue for exhibitors and creators to communicate with comic fans.
HeroesCon 2020 Cancelled due to pandemic
The effect of coronavirus pandemic has impacted Charlotte’s economy because important industry and social events are not happening this year.
Although HeroesCon is not happening until June 19-20, North Carolina has implemented three phases in re-opening the state, which makes it impossible for HeroesCon to push through.

North Carolina announced that mass gatherings of more than 10,000 participants will not transpire by June. Furthermore, the order to stay at home has not been lifted yet, and it’s even extended to May 8.
HeroesCon has released an official statement if their cancellation,
“In light of these developments and the current unprecedented and unpredictable nature of the 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic, and with the best interest of everyone’s health and financial wellbeing in mind, we have made the difficult decision to bypass a 2020 Heroes Convention in favor of fast-forwarding our focus to our 39th Anniversary show to be held June 18-20, 2021.”
Exhibitors, creators, and the fans who have already paid their registration fees may request a refund, but the organisers announced that they will be moving the funds to 2021’s convention. Refunds will be granted but immediate release may not be possible.
Aside from the HeroesCon 2020’s cancellation, some of the big events such as The 2020 Special Olympics North America Conference, SNAXPO20, and The International Window Coverings Expo are also being pushed back to 2021.
What to expect in HeroesCon 2021
