In partnership with French eyewear maker J.F.Rey, Hideo Kojima is launching a new list of designer lenses, based on Death Stranding.
When one hears the name Hideo Kojima, a few things come to mind. The creator of Metal Gear Solid and, more recently, Death Stranding, as well as the mind behind some of coolest wears ever conceived by man. The latter is especially true with how his creative genius saw business application outside of his latest brainchild.
From hooded jackets to watches and back to jackets again, Kojima’s latest soon-to-be designer trend involves the face. In particular, around the eyes with his set of unique and eccentric pair of glasses. Each of which especially made by Jean-Francois Rey, who is known for his unconventional eyeglass designs.
HKxJF01
First in the list is the HKxJF01. A fusion of two pairs of glasses, one pair is a clear regular round lenses, which can be covered by a smaller-sized, differently-shaped dark lenses. The latter can be adjusted to pivot in any angle towards the temple, as per user preference. What they will get is a multi-purpose wear that can be worn in either night or day, depending on the lens. To come in multiple variants, there’s the standard Black Edition, the patterned Chess Edition, and the varicolored Army Edition.
This is a new collaboration model with J.F.REY.
It's a set of two frames with glasses created from my request, a 3D printed Ludens mask & a special design. We will start taking pre-orders soon.

HKxJF02
HKxJF02 has a more conventional approach when it comes to design, but no less as creative in functionality. While the earlier prototype allows for two unremovable pairs of lenses, the HKxJF02 enables the removal of the darker shade lenses. Essentially, as a detachable pair of dark glasses that’s normally placed on top of the clear lenses. Unlike previous model, this particular wear has both pairs of glasses on the exact same dimension, which covers the lens underneath in its entirety. It, too, comes in different variations, namely the Black, Blue, and Army Edition.
HKxJF03
Lastly, there’s the HKxJF03 and the LUDENS Mask, which bundles with it. Making themselves completely separate from the other models, both eyewear features a clear glasses-only layout. But while they lack variety in functionality, they, however, more than make up for their unique looks. The former appears to be a rendition of a steampunk eyeglass. The latter, however, is a lot stranger and is exactly what Kojima Production’s mascot, Ludens, wears. Also, Sam Bridges can also be seen wearing the same gear in Death Stranding. It literally is a mask for gathering attention than your typical functional eyeglasses.
Pre-orders are up
While Hideo Kojima himself has tweeted a pre-order announcement for his latest venture products, pricing remains obscure as of writing. Even the release date was not mentioned. But eager buyers seeking to spend some cash can head to J.F.Rey’ online store.
