Director Hidetaka Miyazaki reveals that the upcoming Elden Ring will be as difficult as Dark Souls 3. Even then, it will focus more on strategy instead of skill.
From what it seems, Elden Ring will be a less difficult game than its predecessors. These include titles like Bloodborne and Dark Souls. Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware are looking to punish players even less to allow for better strategy.
Elden Ring will be as hard as Dark Souls 3
In an interview with Famitsu, Miyazaki talked about the general details about their most awaited title, Elden Ring. Known to be a successor to the ultra-hard Dark Souls, fans are ready to learn more details about the game.
Within the interview, he notes that the difficulty is lower to allow for better freedom of play. This comes in contrast to the way they did Bloodborne and Sekiro, which are known for their difficulty.
“I think the difficulty level as a pure action game is lower than the titles you mentioned,” Miyazaki answered, in reference to Sekiro and Bloodborne’s difficulty.
“I think it’s easy to compare with Sekiro, but there are options to challenge a certain threat after raising the level, and multiplayer. For that reason, I think that the closest image of difficulty is ‘Dark Soul III’, but compared to that, there is freedom of capture, new strategic plans such as summoning spirits and stealth, and multiplayer.”
FromSoftware will still add hard bosses
Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware are clearly moving towards a familiar but different direction with Elden Ring. From what it seems, they’re trying to keep their core audience happy. At the same time, they’re also pushing for new players.
To keep the difficulty balanced, Miyazaki notes that some of the bosses will test players to a degree.
“On the premise that the degree of freedom of capture is high, we have a terrifying boss with a firm and hard response, while we take care not to be a hard obstacle to the progress of the game itself,” said Miyazaki.
“As I mentioned at the beginning, this game comes with a high degree of freedom, and you can put off a boss if you’re not good against it, or you can choose not to fight it until the end. Also, regarding multiplayer, the hurdle to become a host and get help from someone is set lower than in the “Dark Soul” series.”
Elden Ring will likely get many quality of life and difficulty improvements from Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team. These should translate well once the game comes out next year.
