Hitman 3 has now broken even with its development costs, one week after its release. It’s now safe to say that the last installment to Agent 47’s antics is a hit.
Developer IO Interactive will now profit from Hitman 3 starting this week. The studio released their stellar assassination title a week ago, and players are receptive.
It’s one of the most creative games of its genre, and it’s hard to deny how good it is.
IO Interactive proud that HM3 is profitable
HM3 is one of the much-anticipated releases of early 2021. The story, a chronicle of Agent 47’s closing act, showed much promise even during its early days.
Now, the game delivered on its promise with a superb gameplay experience.
According to Gamesindustry.biz, the game is now at the top of the UK charts. The skyrocket into success allowed IO Interactive to recoup the development cost over the past week.
“We have been really happy with the Hitman 3 journey,” says IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak. “It has been a labor of love between our fans and everyone at the studio.
“As the developer and publisher, we are immensely proud that we can say Hitman 3 is already profitable. We have recouped the total project costs in less than a week. That puts us in a really good place and allows us to confidently move forward with our ambitious plans for future projects.”
IOI: “They’re used to us setting a really high bar”
HM3 is the only game so far that is both developed and published by IO Interactive. In the past, the company worked on the game as a developer.
They utilized several publishers over the last 20 years, including Square Enix and Warner Bros.
Now IO took on the full brunt of Hitman 3 both as dev and publisher. This move provided them with all the creative freedom they need. The move paid off, together with some smart marketing and PR tactics.
For example, the studio claims much of their marketing and PR started close to publication. The process not only saved them money but also allowed for a sustained hype without overdoing it.
“We demand of each other that our games are hand-crafted, meticulously detailed, and unique,” said Abrak further. “At this point, we’d be doing our community a disservice if we delivered anything less than that.
“They’re used to us setting a really high bar for quality and memorable experiences, so we keep that mentality at the front of our mind, not only for Hitman but also our future projects.”
Hitman 3 is now out on all platforms, and IO is moving onto their next project. The studio is working on an untitled James Bond game, which hopefully turns out as good as Agent 47’s last hurrah.
