Host (2020)
Because of the COVID-19 quarantine, people are now relying on video conferencing apps for every interaction.
Host is a movie about a Zoom call that has gone incredibly wrong.
It will make the viewer feel anxious and use their brains due to the film’s endless lockdown quizzes.
Think of Paranormal Activity or The Blair Witch Project but more modern, as it is likely to happen these days.
Hereditary (2018)
The film is not for the faint of heart.
Hereditary follows an ill-fated family that is terrorized by a mysterious presence that followed after their grandmother’s death.
This horror movie has many disturbing scenes but continues to stand out as one of the most suspenseful films of the last decade.
Scare Me (2020)
Two people are stuck together when a blackout happens, and they start sharing spooky stories.
Since camping is not allowed in some parts of the world because of the pandemic, think of Scare Me as an alternative to the scary story exchanges that usually happens during camping.
The film had its world premiere at the Sunday Film Festival in January 2020 and was released on Netflix just this month.
Misery (1990)
Misery is a psychological thriller movie based on Stephen King’s book of the same name published in 1987.
An author is on his way home after finishing his latest book when he gets into a car accident.
Later on, he is rescued by an obsessed fan only to discover something dark about the lady.
I’m Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
One of the longest films out there, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, has a running time of 2 hours and 14 minutes.
A woman travels with her new boyfriend, with whom she contemplates ending her relationship, to his parents’ farmhouse.
Upon her arrival, she starts to question everything she thought she knew about him and herself.
This has a Get Out vibe, but this movie is inspired by Iain Reid’s novel of the same name.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
A father and son coroner pulls into a mystery while they attempt to identify an unknown woman’s body.
The body apparently harbors something dark despite it looking like no signs of trauma and well-preserved.
