Nintendo’s next entry for the beloved The Legend of Zelda is a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild. As the follow-up to the instant classic, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 has a lot to live up to, so it should be an upgrade in every sense.
All we know about The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 is that it is being developed currently. Moreover, the title is most likely to take place in the same world as the previous game. That being said, fans are concerned that there may not be enough new content in the open world to explore.
Nintendo is tasked with expanding the Hyrule players have come to know and love. How will it do so considering that an explorable area has already been established in the first game?
New Islands
The developers can easily expand the explorable area by adding new islands to the game. In fact, one of the temple challenges in Breath of the Wild sees Link surviving against all the odds in a closed-off island far from the coasts of Hyrule. Adding new islands to explore also means Nintendo could bring back boats for Link to use.
In previous titles like Phantom of the Hourglass and the widely popular Wind Walker, Link can use a boat that was also central to the storyline. Making the boat customizable also adds a new depth to the sequel, if ever.
Caves and dungeons
Early leaks for The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 suggests that dungeons will be back in the game in exchange for temples. This is a great way to expand Hyrule with new places to explore. That being said, players will have to face new challenges in these dungeons, but there will be a limit to how much of these areas the developer can add.
Aside from dungeons, the developers can add a series of caves that have been a staple in The Legend of Zelda franchise.
Skies
The vertical depth of Hyrule has been explored thanks to areas like Mt. Doom. The developers can add a Skyward Sword like feature in the sequel which allows players to take to the skies to visit new lands. This would make the sequel an even better game as the flying mechanics in Skyward Sword was a big hit amongst fans.
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 is clearly the most anticipated title on the Nintendo Switch. We’re still possibly years away from getting it, but fans can’t help but speculate as to what improvements will come in the game.
