After four generations of console gaming, Sony has decided that it’s time to retire the DualShock controllers. For its next controller, the company is going to launch what it calls as the DualSense controller, which is expected to set the bar for immersive gaming.
For the most part, the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controllers remain to be a mystery. While we’ve seen a ton of footages of it in action, we’ve yet to understand how the controller works fully. Just recently, the company has given us a few insights into what it will be like.
Immersion at its finest
In a recent blog post, Sony detailed how exactly the controller works in terms of delivering an immersive gaming experience. The haptic feedback on the controllers will work differently depending on what game the player is currently playing.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Creative Director Brian Horton says that the controller’s haptic feedback precision allowed them to do a lot of things.
“What does it feel like to use Miles’s stealth ability? How does a Venom Blast feel? Because of the high resolution of DualSense wireless controller’s haptics system, we can really push the dimensionality of the feedback. For instance, as you hold down Square to do a Venom Punch, you feel Spider-Man’s bio-electricity crackle across from the left side of the controller, culminating in the right side on impact,” he says.
Other details
The controllers will adapt to various situations. For instance, Arkane Studio’s Deathloop will put the focus on the controller and its effects on weapons. As per the developers, the triggers will lock if the player’s weapons jams. The developers add that the controllers opened up a ton of possibilities for them.
These are just some of the features that the controller will bring once it releases. While impressed, players are still showing signs of concern. For instance, the advancements added to the controllers might also mean that it will come at a heavy price. For now, Sony is yet to reveal exactly how much the console and the controller is.
The PlayStation 5 launches this holiday season, and along with it, is the revolutionary DualSense controllers. Sony is rumored to show another State of Play this month, which will focus on the console and its pricing. Hopefully, the rumors are true, as fans are already eager to pre-order the console. Both Microsoft and Sony have been tight-lipped about their consoles.
