How ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6’ may continue without Johnny Depp?

Johnny Depp’s future in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 remains uncertain. News emerged that she may be replaced by Karen Gillan to play the new leading role, Redd. As the inclusion of Captain Jack Sparrow is still unknown, here is how the next installment may play out without him.

Johnny Depp has been the face of Pirates of the Caribbean since the movie series began in 2003. The film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, is not even sure of what to do with the actor’s character. However, there are other directions that the movie can take without Captain Jack Sparrow.

The possible return of the Turner family

Dead Men Tell No Tales was not well received by the audience. This will give the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie a chance to take a new path.

For once, it could feature the life story of Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom). Aside from Captain Jack Sparrow, these two are the staple characters of the movie franchise.

They seemed to bid goodbye to the movie series after At World’s End in 2017. But, they had a brief cameo at the end credits of Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Here, they were reunited with their newly introduced son, Henry (Brenton Thwaites). However, with the confrontation with Davy Jones, it left an open ending.

So, according to Cinemablend, this storyline could play out in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. The new installment might put back its focus on the Turner family.

The movie franchise has heavily relied on the Turners, given that Will sought out his father (Bootstrap Bill) in the original trilogy. Also, Henry was the lead character of Dead Men Tell No Tales. So, it may only be pleasing that they will be the new focus of the sixth film even without Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.

A new lead to replace Captain Jack Sparrow

Karen Gillian’s inclusion in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 made a huge noise. There are claims that she may play the new lead role, replacing Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow, Screenrant noted.

In 2018, Disney announced the closing of the classic Pirates of the Caribbean ride to give an update to its story. From here, it introduced the new character of Redd, after the calls to change the scene in which women were auctioned off as brides for drunken pirates were made.

As the auction scene turned into a cult favorite among Disney fans, the move resulted in big controversy. It also removed the controversial line, “we wants the redhead!”, which also became one of the ride’s iconic moments.

As this puts the character of Redd in the spotlight, she is quickly known as a woman who has the wit and also as bold as Captain Jack Sparrow. If Karen Gillan becomes the lead star of Pirates of the Caribbean 6, replacing Johnny Depp, it may solve longstanding issues and move to a new and diverse direction.
