Huawei is all set to bring its very unique operating system in the market by the name HarmonyOS.
HarmonyOS has been in development for a long time. And Huawei’s statement signifies that the brand will not back off from the smartphone market.
On May 15 of last year, Huawei experienced a ban from dealing with any company associated with the US. The matter includes companies like Google, Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft.
Furthermore, the ban meant the destruction of any products or services. It also mandates Huawei no longer to be able to use android as the operating system of their smartphones. It includes the ones that have already been sold.
Huawei’s crisis
The ban was to be executed in stages. It meant that Huawei is in big trouble, given how android is one of the most popular operating systems worldwide. Also, google services create an ecosystem that is used by almost everyone on the internet.
According to a report by MSPoweruser, Richard Yu, Huawei’s CEO, said that the company is undergoing a period of crisis since the supply of processors and chips has been abruptly cut off.
Huawei reportedly has already invested $100 million in HarmonyOS, and they said that they are not doing the work just for themselves.
Richard Yu also said that if Google services are blocked in the future for all the Chinese companies, they will sell their operating system globally as an active technology ecosystem.
HarmonyOS: developments
Huawei is trying to make the HarmonyOS in such a way that it would be able to work on laptops, tablets, and desktops. If everything goes as planned, the consumers might get another option of another technology ecosystem in the name of Huawei.
Huawei’s CEO further shared that HarmonyOS has reached 70%-80% of android’s functions, and the brand is still trying its best to improve the said product so that it can be made known as soon as possible.
According to Huawei, the HarmonyOS is entirely different from android or iOS. It is a micro-kernel based and a distributed OS that can deliver a smoother experience than what we have seen before.
Huawei also claims that the said product is entirely secure and safe, owing to its micro-kernel structure.
The upcoming operating system will be first tested on smart screens like smartwatches and in-car displays. It would later be added to major technological products like smartphones and tablets.
Some rumors that made its way online said that HarmonyOS is glazing its launch in the early dates of 2021. Also, we could be seeing a smartwatch running the HarmonyOS later this year.
