Huawei just recently received its patent for a camera system that uses a liquid lens. The new camera lens provides a quicker auto-focus that regular lenses can’t provide.
Huawei is in the doldrums when it comes to reaching the global market because of the U.S. blacklisting. It is in a limbo as to when or how they may be able to finally welcome back users that have left their ecosystem.
The Chinese giant company has tried multiple tricks up their sleeves to intrigue buyers to even consider buying their phones. Unfortunately, they can only go so far. Nevertheless, Huawei is still busy when it comes to innovation, particularly on its smartphone line up.
Liquid lens on Huawei Mate 40 or Huawei P50
Last month, Huawei received its patent grant on a new camera mechanism that adapts the liquid lens technology. For photography enthusiasts, the idea of liquid lens is quite enticing. For the regular camera phone user, it may not be as exciting.
Be that as it may, the idea of implementing a liquid lens on a phone is a leap towards the greater possibility for phone photography. The patent of Huawei shows a concept that applies three major parts, the moving hardware, limiter, and the connected spring. When at work, the liquid lens mechanism allows for instant refocusing in a matter of milliseconds.
The only available quick autofocus system still uses time of flight sensors which are significantly slower than the auto-focus that the liquid lenses can provide. When actually used, the liquid lens can take more stable videos and photos of rapid moving subjects.
It is still unsure as to which phone the liquid lens will ship with, or if it will actually be available to consumers soon. The best bet for the liquid lens adaption would either be the Huawei Mate 40 to be released later this year or the Huawei P50 phones in 2021.
Huawei P40 Pro+ preorder
Last March, Huawei announced the Huawei P40 line up. The company announced three phones with, but only made available the Huawei P40 and the Huawei P40. Just yesterday, the company announced that the Huawei P40 Pro+ will be available for pre-order starting June 1.
The Huawei P40 Pro+ is Huawei’s answer to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra phone. It is the company’s first phone to have a penta-lens setup that allows for a 100x SuperZoom function. The most high-end phone in the line up will ship in China on June 6 with a base model of 256GB with 8GB of RAM at AU$ 1,690. The price tag of higher-end with 512 GB and 8GB RAM will be $ 1,880.
