The HUAWEI Y8s also features a nostalgic wide notch on top of its front panel.
A month after its polarizing design leaked online, the HUAWEI Y8s is finally in the flesh. Like most phones which have been released lately, the phone debuted without much fanfare. The device was listed on HUAWEI’s website in the Arab country of Jordan.
Notch revival
While most of its rivals in its class are now jumping on the punch-hole bandwagon, HUAWEI sticks to the traditional and equips the Y8s with a small notch on the top of its screen instead. The Y8s is built around a 6.5-inch IPS LCD, with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels.
On its rear, HUAWEI is at its usual business. The Y8s boasts a dual-camera setup, one that is also housed in a conventional module. The system’s configurations include a 48MP wide and 2MP depth sensor.
Meanwhile, HUAWEI’s latest features a dual front-facing camera setup. The system comprises an 8MP wide camera and a 2MP depth sensor.
The phone’s selfie snappers are also said to be AI-enabled. As it is, the device should offer impressive portrait photography.
The HUAWEI Y8s is set to retail in two color variants – Midnight Black and Emerald Green.
Mid-range internals
The HUAWEI Y8s is powered by HUAWEI’s HiSilicon Kirin 710 chipset, which slots this device under the mid-range segment. The phone is then coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage options. The latter is expandable via the device’s microSD card slot.
HUAWEI also equips the Y8s with a decent 4,000mAh battery, with 10W charging.
The phone’s dismal charging capacity isn’t only its drawback. The handset is also notorious for featuring a dated Micro USB port. This is a no-brainer since the phone is only anchored on a conservative charging capacity.
The OS the phone will be shipping with is also less than ideal. Its listing reveals that the phone will be working on EMUI 9.1, based on Android 9.0 Pie. Alas, the phone won’t also come equipped with Google Play Services.
Other key features, pricing, and availability
Nevertheless, the HUAWEI Y8s still comes with some noted add-ons. At the helm of this list is the much-needed 3.5mm headphone jack, right alongside a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and GPS.
Sensors on the HUAWEI Y8s include compass, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, and gravity sensor.
The pricing and availability of the HUAWEI Y8s are yet to be revealed.
