Huawei is ready and all set to launch its next-generation Mate-series flagship smartphones. The official release of the Mate 40 lineup will be on Oct. 22, 2020. The devices will come powered by the company’s very own Kirin 9000 chipset.
Before the release of the new smartphones, there were few leaks regarding the features of the Kirin 9000. In fact, the chipset scored on the popular AnTuTu benchmarking app where it went neck-and-neck with the Exynos 1080.
Chipset based on leaks
Huawei has a huge event coming up in a few days. The company will officially release its latest flagship, the Huawei Mate 40 series.
The event will not just release these phones, it will also release details of its newest chipset, the Kirin 9000 SoC. The new release will be Huawei’s first and only 5nm chip.
Before its official discharge, we have some information about this chipset. A Geekbench 5 OpenCL benchmark device codenamed “NOH-NX9” shows a Huawei mobile phone.
According to previous reports, NOH-NX9 should be the Huawei Mate 40 series. The OpenCL score of the Kirin 9000 is 6430 points. It is worth noting that the GPU of the Kirin 9000 is Mali-G78 and it comes with 24 sets of computing units.
As reported by GSMArena, it scored notably better in GPU portions of the benchmark. That means that the chipset was ahead of both Qualcomm and Samsung’s Exynos top performers.
Kirin 9000 packs a 24-core GPU
Today, a well-known leaker with handle @IceUniverse tweeted another benchmark scorecard. It shows that Kirin 9000 is sporting a 24-core GPU. The leakster notes that the Mali G78 MP24 is clocked at lower frequencies to distribute the load and keep things power efficient.

The Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 9000 will be up against the Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 SoC and the Samsung Exynos 1080 SoC. As early as now, we all know that Huawei has a lot of advantages to this.
The Mali G78 GPU uses a Valhall architecture and supports up to 24-core. This feature is a good improvement considering that the previous generation, G77, comes with only 16 cores. In terms of gaming performance, the 24-core asynchronous performance exceeds 28% of the 18-core performance.
The upcoming Huawei Mate 40 series will feature four smartphone variants. The devices include Huawei Mate 40, Huawei Mate 40 Pro, Huawei Mate 40 Pro+, and Huawei Mate 40 Porsche Design.
