Hugh Jackman will stay still behind the curtains as his most-awaited musical The Music Man has been moved.
The Broadway’s curtains will remain closed for Hugh Jackman as his musical revival, The Music Man, has been postponed.
“The Music Man” supposed debut
Jackman was supposed to establish new records through the highly-anticipated Broadway musical revival. However, Meredith Wilson’s beloved classic The Music Man faced postponements due to COVID-19.
Initially, they lined up the show for a 2020 release. However, the musical producer pushed it back to April 7, 2021, before the official opening on May 20, 2021.
“We’re obviously profoundly disappointed to be unable to start rehearsals for ‘The Music Man’ as scheduled,” Scott Rudin said told The Hollywood Reporter.
“But safety is safety, and it has to take precedence over every other consideration – for both our audience and for our company,” Rudin added.
“The Music Man” new release date
Due to the widespread pandemic, the musical revival will now begin its previews on Dec. 20, 2021, instead.
Following this event at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre, they will launch the Opening Night in February 2022.
The new debut dates are roughly eight months past the previous targets of The Music Man team.
In addition, Broadway already extended their shutdown until May 30, 2021. At first, they set to pull up their curtains again in January 2021.
Despite the cancellation, there will be no changes to the cast yet. Still, Sutton Foster will stand beside Jackman on stage.
Meanwhile, Jayne Houdyshell, Jefferson Mays, Marie Mullen, and Shuler Hensley landed on supporting roles.
As the lead cast, Hugh Jackman pledged that the delay would not diminish the thrill of the live performances.
“Performing on Broadway is a great honor for an actor, in fact, one of the greatest. The energy in the theater is palpable,” Jackman shared. “It is those same feelings that happen every show thereafter – and you and I are going through it together. The change of dates will not take any of that away.”
Due to this sudden change of schedule, ticketholders may visit their point of purchase to make necessary changes.
Aside from The Music Man, other Broadway musicals also halted their openings. Tony Kushner-Jeanine Tesori musical Caroline, or Change and Michael Jackson musical MJ faced the same fate.
They expect this kind of postponement to be usual, especially the COVID-19 vaccine yet to be discovered.
