Ubisoft is finally giving in and is venturing into the battle royale genre officially with Hyper Scape. Based on the trailer, this game will feature unique features for a battle royale game. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming title.
We didn’t get a full release date for the upcoming game yet. However, the end of the trailer did say that we are going to get the game on consoles soon. The game’s closed beta will begin next week while the game’s open beta will launch on July 12, most likely during Ubisoft Forward.
As for console availability, the game is possibly going to be available on current generation consoles. Cross-play is being planned for the game as well. We also know that the game will be free-to-play.
The game will feature standard tropes for a battle royale game such as a huge map, a ring that closes in as the game goes on, and a winner take all format that sees only one squad of three making it to the end. One of the unique features of the game is its Twitch integration.
If streamers play Hyper Scape, their viewers can directly influence the game. Thanks to Ubisoft’s full partnership with Twitch, viewers will be able to download an extension on the Twitch chat that allows them to influence a streamer’s game.
To do so, they need to buy Twitch bits via the extension. They can influence games in various ways, such as giving the streamers different skills and stats.
The game is set in a futuristic setting, and from the gameplay we’ve seen, the map will be large vertically as well. It’s a fast-paced battle royale that could give games like Warzone and Apex Legends a run for their money.
Hyper Scape is another entry in the oversaturated field, so Ubisoft needs to make sure that they are doing enough to make the game stand out. For now, it seems like the game is a hit on Twitch, and popular streamers are currently liking the loop so far. We’ll have to wait till the closed beta to see whether it can really make a difference in the genre.
