‘Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity’: What’s the gameplay like?

Fans who are expecting a new The Legend of Zelda game might have to wait a while longer. Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is not a typical game from the series, but it’s going to be an amazing entry nonetheless.

The Legend of Zelda fans can’t help but talk about Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity since it was revealed a few days back. Those who’ve played the first entry already know what to expect. However, those who’ve yet to play it or any Musou game for that matter might not know what to expect.

What is a Musou game?

Musou games aren’t exactly a genre in gaming. However, it is a series made popular by Koei Tecmo. Their acclaimed Dynasty Warriors series popularized the term Musou games.

In this hack and slash series, players are dropped in a large map filled with hundreds of enemy soldiers. There are various objectives in each game. Some include having to wipe out enemy forces completely. There are some that tasks players with defending a certain ally.

The map is filled with numerous outposts that players will have to take over. Doing so will allow them to have more ally soldiers on their team. Aside from basic enemies, the opposing team also has generals who are more powerful. These could be other playable characters in the game.

How does ‘The Legend of Zelda’ spin-off differ?

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity will most likely play the same. The key difference is that there could be new objectives to complete and even new combat elements to consider. In the first Hyrule Warriors, played like any other Musou game.

In terms of character progression, players will simply have to unlock new weapons and equipment for their characters.

A unique feature to Hyrule Warriors is Legend Mode. In this mode, players will have to explore a map of Hyrule. To be more specific, the players explored the class Legend of Zelda map. There are various challenges in each part of the map. Completing the challenges rewards players with various items.

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity will launch for the Nintendo Switch on Nov. 20. While it’s a spin-off, the events of the game are going to be canon. Players of Breath of the Wild may want to try out this spin-off if they want to learn more about Breath of the Wild. All fans have to do now is stay patient and hope that there will be no delays.
