“Jallikattu” movie details
The film, helmed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, tells the story of a remote village. A buffalo escapes and then causes insane violence there. A normal-day slaughter of the animal goes unexpectedly bad for the character of Kalan Varkey. Villagers call the police, and then the entire drama begins to find violent buffalo.
Antony Varghese plays the lead role in the movie Jallikattu. Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad, and Santhy Balachandran are the rest of the cast members.
Speaking of the entry, then it’s India’s third overall submission in the International category. Previously, Lagaan was the film that entered in the nominations but missed 19 years ago.
Potential winners in the International category
Talking about the 2021 Oscars race, then the race is getting tough with each new submission. Recently, many countries selected their best entries for the ultimate prize. In the last few months, Canada, Iran, South Korea, Ireland, and Japan have sent their selections.
While Funny Boy represents Canada, The Man Standing Next and Sun Children will compete for South Korea and Iran. On the other hand, Arracht and True Mothers will fight for Ireland and Japan, respectively.
Among these contenders, it will be difficult for the Indian entry to win or even move forward. But it totally depends on the jury of the Academy Awards and their choice. It’s an important year for the entertainment industry amid a pandemic. And due to the inevitable impact, many award functions have been moved to online events.
Music award shows and several other popular film festivals were held online via streaming platforms. And considering this situation, there will be a lot of curiosity about how the Oscars will take place next year.
As of now, rumors suggest that the Academy awards might be delayed until April 2021. And they won’t happen in February like in the past.
Coming back to the Best International Feature category, then a lot of pride will be at stake for all the nations. And it’s vital for India’s Jallikattu since the country has never won an Oscar in this section.
