Indie 2D fighting game 'Bounty Battle' shows off impressive roster

Indie free-for-all Bounty Battle drops an action-packed new trailer, giving fans a glimpse at the game’s impressive roster of iconic indie characters.

Nothing excites fighting game fanatics quite like a good old-fashioned cross-over game. Just look at fan-favorite blockbuster franchises Marvel vs Capcom and Super Smash Bros. While not quite as high-profiled as the aforementioned titles, Bounty Battle is also looking to get in on the cross-over action.

Bounty Battle is a 2D fighter featuring memorable characters from various indie game franchises, including Awesomenauts and Guacamelee! With their new trailer, publisher Merge Games gave fans a sneak peek at the upcoming fighting game’s roster.

The indie cross-over fighter is all set for digital release on July 16 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Switch, with physical editions following a month after.

Bounty Battle brings in the little guns

Merge Games’ minute-long roster teaser showcased iconic characters from Dead Cells, Darkest Dungeon, Guacamelee!, Death’s Gambit, and Owlboy.

In addition to the previously mentioned names, Battle Bounty will feature an expansive roster of more than 25 characters spanning over 20 different indie game titles. Check out the full list of featured indie games below:

  • Awesomenauts
  • Axiom Verge
  • Battle Chasers Nightwar
  • Blocks that Matter
  • Blubber Busters
  • Darkest Dungeon
  • Dead Cells
  • Death’s Gambit
  • Doko Roko
  • EITR
  • Flinthook
  • Guacamelee!
  • Jotun
  • Nuclear Throne
  • Oddmar
  • Owlboy
  • Pankapu
  • Ruin of the Reckless
  • SteamWorld Dig
  • Super Comboman
  • The Bug Butcher
  • Tower of Samsara

Interestingly enough, there was one more character to appear in the trailer without any indication as to which game he’s from. Although, indie fans may recognize him as “The Penitent One” from Blasphemous, which wasn’t part of the list of included video game titles.

This opens up the possibility of Bounty Battle introducing more characters in the future from other awesome indie titles, such as Hollow Knight, Hyper Light Drifter, or even Cuphead.

Other upcoming titles from Merge Games

The cross-over brawler isn’t the only title from Merge Games to get excited about, as they recently revealed a few more interesting projects in the pipeline.

Earlier in the month, the Australian publisher announced the revival of Sega’s original mascot Alex Kidd, who actually predated that much more popular Sonic the Hedgehog.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX will be a remake of the first installment in the franchise, which was originally released back in 1986, and will be available on all major consoles.

Another title worth keeping an eye out for is Morbid The Seven Acolytes, a top-down gothic pixel art game that marries the mechanics of the widely popular “Souls” games with the perspective of some of the earlier Legend of Zelda titles.
