Injustice 3 and Mortal Kombat 12 may soon come to PS5 and Xbox series.
It appears that NetherRealm’s job listing aims to find people to work on the games’ next-gen versions. With the ongoing crisis of the coronavirus pandemic and government-imposed lockdowns, people are forced to stay at home.
Owing to that, the demand for video gaming has skyrocketed. As a result, game developers are now looking into creating new games and developing sequels to meet those demands.
Injustice 3 and Mortal Kombat 12 sequels in the works
NetherRealms might be developing the latest game sequels for both Injustice and Mortal Kombat franchises. The recent job listing posted on the official WB Game’s career stated:
“NetherRealm, a division of WB Games Inc., seeks a Principal Software Engineer – Graphics to drive the next generation console graphics vision for the Mortal Kombat and Injustice franchises. As a Principal Graphics Engineer, you will work closely with the Lead Engineer and the rest of your peers to develop state-of-the-art graphics technology for the PS5 and XBOX Series X.”
Furthermore, NetherRealms is not the only company that is hiring people. Earlier this month, Bungie’s was also recruiting people to work on a new whimsical RPG game.

When to expect Mortal Kombat 12 and Injustice 3
When NetherRealms released Mortal Kombat 11 last year, it became one of the most successful entries so far. Thus, it’s no surprise if a new Mortal Kombat game will soon hit the shelves. Warner Brothers is even releasing a new Mortal Kombat live-action movie owing to its popularity.

The Mortal Kombat games have been coming out every four years. If NetherRealms will follow the release pattern, the next installment will presumably arrive in 2023. However, with the increasing demand in video games, NetherRealms might move up its release date.
In a Q&A interview with creator Ed Boon for the Summer Game Fest, he teased on the developments of Mortal Kombat for next-gen consoles. He said:
“Mortal Kombat has become like a staple thing, almost Marvel-like. You don’t expect the last Marvel movie to ever come out, they’re just gonna keep coming. Even though we’ve been able to scratch other itches, you know doing Injusticegames and stuff, and we have other stuff in the oven, but it’s always nice to do the Mortal Kombat games.”
Since the release of Injustice 2 in 2017, there’s no official confirmation on Injustice 3 release. It will be interesting to see if NetherRealms will still continue to portray the DC characters for Injustice 3.
