Apple says that iOS 14 can run on the iPhone 6s and later, which is the same as iOS 13. This means that any iPhone supported by iOS 13 is also supported by iOS 14.
Apple’s next operating system probably won’t be fully cooked or ready to download until sometime in September. However, as advised by Apple, you can still get it at your own risk as early as July.
How to download iOS 14 beta on your iPhone
The public beta for iOS 14 doesn’t have an exact release date as of now, but the American based company already announced that it’s coming very very soon. If that happens this month, there are some pretty simple steps you can take to hop on the beta bandwagon.
Take note that once you download the beta version, you’ll get the chance to test an unfinished system. Although it is still a continually evolving version of the new iOS, Apple assures that it will not affect anything saved on your iPhone.
To make sure your device supports iOS 14, here’s the full list of compatible devices:
- iPod Touch, 7th gen
- iPhone SE, original and 2nd gen
- iPhone 6s and 6s Plus
- iPhone 7 and 7 Plus
- iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
- iPhone X, XR, XS, and XS Max
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max
The first thing you should do is to create a backup. You can use your iCloud account or connect your iPhone to a computer to access the files.
The second step is to enroll your device and install the beta.
Open Safari, if you don’t have the app, try Chrome. Go to Apple’s beta website. Scroll down until you see the “Get Started” button and click on it. Apple spells out precisely what to do each step of the way, so you just have to follow them.
New features that will maximize your iPhone usage
According to CNET, iOS 14 will give users a chance to experience widgets on their home screen. There will be an app drawer-like feature called the App Library, and there are some pretty significant changes coming to iMessage too.
Here are more of the features that you will surely love:
- Tag someone in a text conversation
- Pin a conversation to the top of the messages
- Apple now has a Translate app built-in
- A more organized home screen with App Library
- Widgets have a new look and a new home
- Picture-in-picture is a convenient tool you’ll love
iPads get some powerful upgrades and new features in Apple’s next software update, too! But that’s another story to tell.
