iPhone 12: Here’s what we know so far about Apple’s next-big iPhone release

Key speculations about the upcoming iPhone point to Apple’s most game-changing phone and lineup yet, with design and camera overhauling now in the mix.

Rumors continue to swirl for Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 12 and the accompanying series. Since the company’s new iPhone SE release, speculations have been mounting on the firm’s hotly-anticipated iPhone refresh. And considering that the pandemic currently besieges the mobile world, this is both staggering and reassuring.

Similar aesthetics

A report by Japanese publication Mac Otakara revealed that the iPhone 12 would look almost identical to the vanilla iPhone 11. The source noted, however, that the difference between the two would lie on the former’s slightly bowed edges.

Speculations are rife that the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max will launch with flat edges and sides, similar to that of the 2020 iPad Pros. Several analysts also predicted that this purported design modification could usher an influx of demand and could drive more sales for the iconic series.

A new color variant

The iPhone 12 series will also continue the lineup’s now-traditional introduction of new color variants. In 2020, sources revealed that Apple might launch a new color for the iPhone 12 Pro. Currently dubbed as “Navy Blue,” the alleged new paint job could be based on recent trends, which call out “Classic Blue” and “Phantom Blue” as the colors of the year.

Bigger and smaller screens?

Apart from a redefined design language of the iPhone 12 series, Apple is also tipped to be introducing new screen sizes. One of the variants could launch with a 5.4-inch screen. Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is also heavily rumored to feature a larger 6.7-inch. This is quite beefed-up compared to the iPhone 11 Pro Max’s 6.5-inch display.

Apple could also be jumping on the bandwagon of smartphone brands employing higher refresh rates. Rumor has it that the company could equip the iPhone 12’s display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Four is the number

Apart from varying screen sizes, the grapevine is also awash with speculations that Apple could be launching four new iPhone 12s in 2020. These include a 5.4-inch model, two 6.1-inch variants, and a 6.7-inch edition. All of them could also launch with OLED displays, which is also a noticeable jump from the previous generations.

The number four seems to be Apple’s new numerical staple this year. This could be true as the company is also rumored to feature a fourth sensor on the iPhone 12’s rear camera setup. The purported fourth module is the LiDar sensor, which already debuted in the company’s newest iPad Pro lineups.

The iPhone 12 series tipped to launch on its schedule this fall, with some expected delays on its availability.
