Apple’s controversial move on the iPhone 12 could be intended to reduce cost and introduce a slimmer box in the process.
A tipster with a reliable track record has now seconded speculations that the iPhone 12 series wouldn’t be shipping with chargers or EarPods.
A slim, “exquisite” retail box, iPhone SE2
iPhone 12’s newest development was sourced from the Twitter account @LOvetodream. The source reported that the iPhone 12 packaging would come in an “exquisite” rendition. Note that the same leaker predicted the iPad Pro, Magic Keyboard, and the release of the new iPhone SE correctly.
The source added that an iPhone SE2 is in the works. The said iPhone could also arrive with the same fate, that is without EarPods and a charger in its box.
Apple informer Ming-Chi Kuo previously revealed that Apple might not include the wired EarPods headphones in the box. The move might be to drive sales of Apple’s second-generation AirPods. Consequently, consumers may no longer receive the free headphones out of the box for the very first time.
Discounted Apple “hearables”
Kuo further suggested that Apple may be mulling over promoting or discounting these “hearables” come this holiday season. This is key as there are no reported new models of AirPods or AirPods Pro on the horizon. Not until 2021, anyway.
If Apple would indeed head in this route, then its future customers might have to be forced to purchase either its MFi Lightning proprietary wired headphones such as EarPods. For users who don’t like to deal with wired earbuds, they may even have to shell out more on products like AirPods.
Over the years, there have been reports suggesting that Apple could be offering a bundle of iPhone and AirPods. Kuo also backed the company’s purported “promotional plan” strategies that may very well include the aforementioned bundle.
iPhone 12: A bold, polarizing move
Apple’s removal of EarPods in the upcoming iPhone 12 boxes could polarize tons of users in the process. Well, that is at least if you consider what the company did when it released the iPhone 7 series, which didn’t arrive with a headphone jack. But if the firm could mitigate it by surprising its fans with something fairly new, this could be just about the right time to introduce its beneficial plans.
Apple’s iPhone 12 is tipped to launch in September 2020, with four models with three different sizes.
