Alongside their purportedly high display refresh rates, the top-tier iPhone 12 editions are also en route to support 10bit color depth.
iPhone 12 users are now in for a huge visual treat.
Another display breakthrough
The latest report from a reputable tech site revealed that the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max are now poised to debut with support for a 10bit Super Retina XDR screen. The latest development on the upcoming iPhone series’ top-tier editions is its biggest update yet since it was speculated that the series would also launch with high display refresh rates.
On paper, the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max’s screens should be able to display more than 1 billion colors. This should also far exceed the 16.7 million colors that are supported by the 8bit panel on the iPhone 11 Pro.
iPhone 12 series: Flagship internals
At the core, the forthcoming series should also come standard with Apple’s A14 Bionic chipset. This is the first in-house SoC from the company to be based on TSMC 5nm. Moreover, the chip features 15 billion transistors, which are far more than the A13’s 8.5 billion transistors.
Meanwhile, the standard configuration of the A14 Bionic chip supports 5GSub-6GHz and high-frequency millimeter wave (mmWave).
In terms of storage combinations, it is tipped that they are going to start with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The standard iPhone 12 variants, on the other hand, will commence from 4GB of RAM.
More camera sensors
Further reports also indicated that the 12 Pro models are likely to house a triple-camera setup on their rear panels. The setup is also said to be equipped with the additional LiDAR sensor.
Expected price, availability
Perhaps the biggest update that was received recently by the rumor mill is the pricing of the next iPhone series. Accordingly, the vanilla iPhone will start at USD 649 for the 128GB edition, while the 256GB variant will sell for USD 749.
The rumored iPhone 12 Max is also set to be priced at USD 749 (128GB), and could go up to USD 849 in the US.
The iPhone 12 Pro, which is tipped to retail in three variants, will debut with a starting price tag of USD 999 and USD 1,299 for its top-tier 512GB version.
Finally, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, will start with a price tag of USD 1,099 and could go up to USD 1,399 for its 512GB variant.
The iPhone 12 series is expected to debut in September. Expect the availability of the variants to get delayed, though, due to the current pandemic.
