iPhone 12: Pro Max edition’s leaked screenshots suggest LiDAR and 120Hz display

The iPhone 12 Pro Max’s latest development briefly follows reports which indicated that the 12 Pro wouldn’t arrive with a high refresh rate display due to supply issues.

Another day, another chapter.

Only days after reports emerged that the iPhone 12 Pro wouldn’t launch with a high 120Hz display refresh rate, a new development has now surfaced refuting the former.

A 120Hz display refresh rate is still a possibility

Reliable tipster @Jon_Prosser revealed that the iPhone 12 Pro Max would feature a 120Hz refresh rate after all. His latest information was taken from screenshots and a short hand-on video.

The leaked screenshots were purportedly sourced from an iPhone 12 Pro Max’s production validation prototype (PVT). This is deemed to be a manufactured device from the assembly line after the first run of mass production, right at full speed. This should almost be a certainty as the device sports near-final hardware and software.

Hold your water though

A camera menu can be seen in the first screenshot, alongside the option “Enable Camera Features.” This same option enables the LiDAR features, which are also a hallmark of the phone’s rumored new camera.

Apart from the option enabling LiDAR features, other toggles that can be activated on the menu are the enhanced night mode, advanced noise reduction, and zoom capabilities, among others.

The next screenshot confirms that the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is in its test production prototype, truly has a 120Hz refresh rate in the mix. Note that the phone still isn’t in its final production iteration, so Apple dropping such feature for the finished hardware is not entirely impossible.

iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max rumored features

Prosser also did serve some separate feeding in terms of the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max’s other key features. He revealed that the phones could arrive with the same notch size and that their bezels would be “noticeably thinner.”

He also revealed that the Face ID technology would work from wider angles, while the phones’ sides would be flat. Their glass would also have a slight curve.

The iPhone 12 series is also speculated to launch with the new Apple Bionic A14 SoC, bigger batteries, OLED panels, and a design that pays homage to the newer iPad Pros.

The iPhone 12 Pro is tipped to be announced in September, with its shipment slated in October.
