The sales of the iPhone 12 Pro will reportedly eclipse the performance of the iPhone 12, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
The Apple brouhaha has sort of died down over the past week. Soon, buyers around the world slowly get their hands on the all-new iPhone 12. The new Apple phones will ship with all-new packaging. New buyers will no longer ship with wall chargers and EarPods in the box.
The same adjustment applies to the basic iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, and the Pro lines. Initially, the basic iPhone 12 and the smaller model were expected to sell like hotcakes. However, the contrary seems to be true based on recent reports.
iPhone 12 Pro is the king of the new Apple phones sales
The Cupertino-based company has stopped sharing the actual number of its sales for quite some time now. However, the company still reveals how much growth they’ve experienced, albeit very vague.
Earlier this year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo projected that the Apple iPhone 12 will sell like hotcakes. He initially shared that the masses will gravitate more towards the cheaper models compared to the Pro models. Kuo expected the iPhone 12 to account for up to 40-45% of the total shipment of this new line.
However, based on the recent pre-order windows, Kuo was forced to adjust his forecast. The iPhone 12 Pro is gaining so much momentum that its sales split is expected to equal that of the iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 Mini, on the other hand, isn’t gaining as much traction as it was expected too.
As a result, Kuo is also revising his forecast on the phone down to just 10 to 15% from an original split of 20 to 25%. Kuo didn’t say exactly why the sales are shifting. However, he indicated that the strong preference of the Chinese market for the bigger and more premium model could be a strong factor.
The real cost of buying an iPhone 12
In the name of the environment, Apple is no longer shipping wall chargers and Apple EarPods with the new phones. As such, only the phone and some paperwork will come with the all-new thinner and sleeker box. Unfortunately, the entire strategy seems like a bit of a smokescreen.
For a new customer entering the ecosystem of Apple, the new iPhone 12 phones will come significantly more expensive than the previous models. Not only do they have to buy a new wall charger, but they will also have to invest in their pair of earphones. The total additional payments can cost the new buyer up to more than US$150 on top of the original price tag.
The company isn’t limiting its strategy to the iPhone 12 phones. It will also reportedly drop the charger and the EarPods from the boxes of upcoming new shipments of older Apple phones such as the iPhone 11.
