iPhone 12 shocker: Entry-level LTE variant to only cost USD 549

The “budget” iPhone 12 is almost similarly priced as the new iPhone SE, which launched for USD 399 earlier this year.

The cheapest iPhone flagship in years

A new report from @omegaleaks has revealed that Apple could be mulling over releasing a cheaper iPhone come September.

Shared via Twitter, the leakster claimed that the Cupertino, California-based iPhone maker is set to launch a 4G variant iPhone 12. Accordingly, the entry-level 5.4-inch phone will only retail for USD 549, which easily makes it the cheapest iPhone in years.

The tipster further revealed that even Max 4G edition is also slated to be priced at USD 649. The 5G-powered iPhone 12 variants, on the other hand, are going to retail for USD 649 and USD 749, respectively.

The latest development also somehow corroborates the pricing scheme first tipped by @Jon_Prosser on the same social media platform. He listed the prices from USD 649, USD 749, USD 999, and USD 1,099. Note that these prices are all the 5G-enabled iPhone 12 editions.

iPhone 12 rumored features and specifications

Perhaps the most talked-about, upcoming feature of the iPhone 12 series is its design. The lineup is en route to arrive with an overhauled one, which is also a homage to previous iPhones. It will also be one that echoes the current aesthetics of the newer iPad Pros.

We’re talking about the upcoming iPhone series’ flat edges and smaller notches. The phones’ frames are also said to be made of metal, akin to the iPhone 4.

The new iPhones are also tipped to use a more complex segmentation design, alongside fresh trenching and injection molding processes.

OLED displays, 6GB RAM, and 5G

Apple is also about to introduce slightly larger camera lenses, thicker antenna lines at the phones’ sides for 5G, and a relocated SIM tray, among others. The new series could also launch with a Smart Connector-like input on the right side, which is likely an antenna as well. The lineup is still headed to use a Lightning port, as opposed to USB-C ones.

Other key features that are expected to debut with the iPhone 12 variants are the Apple A14 Bionic chipset, OLED screens, 4GB/6GB of RAM tiers, and a 20W USB-C power adapter.

All the iPhone 12 variants are expected to debut in September 2020.
