iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are both coming to the stores this October. The iPhone 12 will reportedly ship at a discount of AU$ 80 to 100 discount compared to the iPhone 11.
Another day of the lock down, another rumor added to the expected announcement of iPhone 12 lineup of Apple. The name is still up for debate as to its authenticity, but experts are already calling it iPhone 12 nevertheless.
Apple insiders are confident that the Cupertino-based company will proceed with the October launch of the newest iPhone 12 series despite the uncertainties brought about by the pandemic.
iPhone 12 series pricing
In an unprecedented move, Apple will reportedly ship the base model of the flagship phone at a price lower than the previous model. The iPhone 12 base model of 128GB will ship at a discount of up to $100 compared to the iPhone 11. The iPhone 12 Pro models on the other hand will follow the pricing of the previous models’ Pro version.
The strategy seems to mimic the successful implementation of the iPhone SE series. The lowered price of the SE series has attracted the ever-coveted mid range market dominated previously by Samsung. Apple seems like its ready to dive into the price war territory following this rumor.
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro specs sheet
Apple is set to launch four models of the iPhone 12 this October. The base model iPhone 12 will have 5.4-inch screen. Its bigger model, iPhone 12 Max, will have a 6.1-inch screen. iPhone 12 Pro on the other hand will start at a 6.1-inch screen, and its Max model will have a 6.7-inch screen.
Both the iPhone 12 phones will only have a 4GB RAM, while the Pro models will have the 6GB RAM configuration. Only the Pro models will have a triple camera setup that will feature the LiDAR camera previously introduced with the iPad Pro 2020.
5G and 120Hz screen refresh rate
The biggest debate point for the iPhone 12 series is whether or not it will already have 5G capabilities and the 120Hz screen refresh rate.
Apple’s competitors have already launched their 5G flagship phones, and the company is playing the catching up game. Ultimately the biggest factor affected by these two flagship staples is the price.
The 120Hz screen refresh rate will depend on the battery capacities of the iPhone 12 series phones. It would only make sense for the 120Hz screen refresh rate to be available only on the Pro models where the battery capacities are historically larger. On the other hand, the 5G capabilities will depend on whether or not Apple can stomach the increased cost without significantly increasing the selling price.
