The iQOO U1 is a 4G-enabled smartphone that also features a punch-hole display and a 48MP-headlining rear triple-camera setup.
The iQOO Z1x may still be fresh on everyone’s radar, but iQOO isn’t dilly-dallying as it releases yet another entry – the iQOO U1. The brand’s newest is a 4G-powered smartphone with an attractive, starting price tag of CNY 1,198. As it is, the phone is easily one of the most affordable, not only from the firm but also in its class.
6.53-inch IPS LCD with punch-hole
The iQOO U1 is built around a 6.53-inch IPS LCD screen, with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. It also delivers a high screen space of 90.72%, thanks to the inclusion of a display cutout that houses its single selfie snapper.
The phone employs a seamless rear panel around the back, one that is only interrupted by a camera module. Talking about cameras, the handset features a triple-camera unit, which packs a large 48MP as its primary camera. The main camera is then accompanied by a 2MP portrait lens and a 2MP macro snapper.
Snapdragon 720G with up to 8GB RAM
The iQOO U1 also has solid mid-range internals. At the helm is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G chipset. The 2.3GHz octa-core SoC gets accompanied by 6GB/8GB of LPPDR4x RAM and 64GB/128GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage options. Both of the latter tiers, however, neither come with support for storage expansion.
iQOO also equipped the U1 mid-ranger with a 4,500mAh battery capacity, with 18W fast wired charging support. For some odd reasons, the brand decided to arm the device with a dated micro USB port.
Other takeaways from the phone are its side-mounted fingerprint reader, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Bluetooth 5.1. Modern gamers should also appreciate the add-ons such as Game Space and Multi-Turbo modes.
The iQOO U1 ships with iQOO UI, based on the latest Android 10.
Pricing and availability
The smartphone retails in three color variants – Blue, White, and Black. The base 6GB/64GB variant carries a price tag of CNY 1,198, while one must shell out CNY 200 more for the next RAM and ROM tier. On the other hand, the top-end 8GB/128GB version should set buyers back at CNY 1,598.
Currently, the iQOO U1 is up for pre-orders in the Chinese market. The phone can be availed via iQOO’s official website. The phone is set to go on sale starting on July 23, 2020. At the moment, iQOO is yet to reveal the phone’s global availability plans.
