Gaming fans of the Star Wars universe have got a big reason to celebrate. Ubisoft has just announced an open-world video game!
According to Gamesradar, Ubisoft, in partnership with Lucasfilm, announced a brand new Star Wars open-world RPG. The good news is that the title is in the works already.
Moreover, it’s the first time, since 2012, that a video game in this franchise will be developed outside Electronic Arts. This time it’s being helmed by Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment.
Star Wars game early details
Speaking in detail, then the RPG is being developed with the Snowdrop engine of Massive Entertainment. It was also used in past titles like The Division 2 and South Park: The Fractured But Whole.
Division 2‘s director Julian Gerighty is the creative director of the upcoming Star Wars open-world game. He is also known for another famous title, The Crew.
However, one thing which is not confirmed right now is the timeline of this RPG. There’s been no word from the developers regarding that.
The most interesting thing about this big news is that EA’s exclusive rights for developing Star Wars games are yet to expire. And there’s a lot of time left for that to happen. Despite that, Lucasfilm managed to strike a deal with Ubisoft for a brand new title. It’s also surprising looking at it from this perspective. However, clearing some confusions, Disney‘s Sean Shoptaw recently said:
“EA has been and will continue to be a very strategic and important partner.”
Back to the game, it’s still in very early stages and will surely take a long time before its final launch date is revealed.
Listings on Massive’s careers page about the new title mentioned that it would feature “highly detailed realistic-looking characters, creatures, and NPCs.”
Additionally, for the senior game designer role, the criteria is “experience working with enemy AI/NPCs in a shooter or Action-Adventure game.”
The above-mentioned position also requires a lot of passion for playing and making games. And it should be important, especially regarding RPG and action-adventure games.
Upcoming anticipated video game titles of 2021
Meanwhile, there are already a lot of new and exciting video games arriving this year. It’s going to be a considerable time for hardcore players. With the likes of Halo Infinite, Resident Evil Village, and Hitman 3, the stage will be set on fire. Then there is Gotham Knights, The Medium, Dying Light 2, and STALKER 2 as well.
Coming back on the Star Wars series, fans must be happy with a great future ahead in both TV shows and games.
