J.K. Rowling 'not directly involved' in 'Hogwarts Legacy', WB confirms

World-renowned Harry Potter series writer, J.K. Rowling, faces waves of criticisms following her alleged “transphobic” commentary. Her participation in Hogwarts Legacy concerns potential players of the HP-themed open-world game.

Many wondered if J.K. Rowling has any part in the Wizarding World game production. As revealed in yesterday’s PlayStation 5 showcase, Warner Bros., through Avalanche and Portkey Games, will release a Wizarding World title called Hogwarts Legacy

No direct involvement?

J.K. Rowling is best known for her great creation, the Harry Potter series. She wrote this highly fantasized fictional world into existence.

Nonetheless, despite the “inherent ties,” Warner Bros. confirms that Hogwarts Legacy is not a “new story” from the writer. In fact, according to the game’s FAQ page, WB clarifies that:

J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World.

Although, as pointed out by PolygonJ.K. Rowling “will presumably earn royalties” from the game. This claim is based on other projects that “she still profits from the entirety of the Wizarding World universe.”

Nonetheless, it appears that the Portkey Games label will be driving the game. According to the FAQ:

“Each experience offered under Portkey Games will take place in the Wizarding World and will be authentic to the Wizarding World. J.K. Rowling is supportive of Portkey Games and has entrusted the design and creation of the games to WB Games and the developers involved.”

Hogwarts Legacy will not touch the Harry Potter storyline

Despite its roots coming from the Harry Potter series, Hogwarts Legacy seems like it is far from Harry’s adventure to defeat the Dark Lord, Voldemort, protecting both the Wizarding World and the world of Muggles.

Based on its FAQ, Hogwarts Legacy focuses more on exploring the Wizarding World by experiencing the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as a student. Also, the game is set in the 1800s, which dates far from Harry’s time. In fact, this dates further away from when Tom Riddle even went to Hogwarts which was from 1938 to 1945.

Why is the public upset with J.K. Rowling?

Normally, Rowling’s involvement with this new HP game would not have been much of an issue. However, the famed writer is currently in the hot seat for her “transphobic” commentary.

Reports have it, Rowling made such comments in June on Twitter. She was further slammed for her follow-up essay explanation of her “anti-trans” comment.

Critics have since accused her of being a “TERF” or a “trans-exclusionary radical feminist.”
