Netflix’s The Division film will proceed with a new director in Rawson Marshall Thurber. Due to his busy schedule and other projects, David Leitch had to step down. However, he will remain attached to the project as a producer.
The big-screen adaptation of the hit gaming franchise will see Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain in lead roles.
Rawson Marshall Thurber is known for his past works like Skyscraper and Dodgeball. Now he will take charge of the ambitious Netflix project.
Speaking of the film itself then Netflix purchased the rights to Tom Clancy’s The Division in 2019. And during that year’s E3 event, the streamer officially announced a big-screen adaptation.
Two years ago, when Leitch was named the director, he said he planned to “break the video game curse” with this title. Because so far, there’s never been a great game-to-movie transition.
Well, he’s still got this opportunity. It’s just that he won’t be working as a director.
Starring acclaimed actors like Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal, The Division will depict Ubisoft’s hit game which was first released in 2016. The story will follow the journey of agents who want to take New York city back after its hit by a virus.
The film’s producers include new director Rawson’s company Bad Version production with Ubisoft Film and Television. Leitch and Kelly McCormick’s 87North Productions, Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories, and Chastain’s Freckles Films are also on board.
It seems like there’s nothing that can stop video game movies from becoming live-action versions. The present scenario is perfect for all die-hard fanatics who always wanted a serious focus on gaming adaptations. And now they are getting it as well!
When it comes to the present line-up of multiple titles, there are many ongoing productions. After pleasing the gamers with its characters, a Borderlands movie will arrive soon to entertain them in all its glory. Then there is a reboot of Resident Evil films, scheduled to launch next year.
Coming back to The Division, currently, there’s not much information regarding a release date.
