During a recent episode of The Late Late Show With James Corden, the comedian responded to the rumors while talking to Alicia Keys. The singer took part in the “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” segment on the late-night talk show.
Keys asked Corden if he’d ever considered replacing DeGeneres on Ellen Show. And the host said that he would answer the question instead of eating what’s in front of him.
“Genuinely, I have no idea where that even came from. I think somebody started a rumor somewhere and someone jumped on it. There is absolutely no truth in that story at all, zero,” he said.
“And, as far as considering it, I think it would be a really crazy thing to take over from someone who I think has done the job so outrageously well for like 18 years. So, it’s not true. And I think, when the day comes to end this show, [it] will be the day to probably stop hosting a show every day, so no I wouldn’t [consider it],” he added.
Last month, there were claims that DeGeneres will no longer return to host Ellen Show amid claims of a toxic work environment on set. Several tabloids came up with a list of celebrities who could, allegedly, replace the comedian.
Corden’s name seemingly came up out of nowhere. A source claimed that one of the heads at NBC is a huge fan of James Corden.
“This issue has fast-tracked everything and made everyone look at the future today. James Corden was being eyed for Ellen’s job in the long term before any of this came to light. Now, this shocking new development places a spotlight on the next step,” a source told The Sun.
Corden stayed mum on the rumors until this week. And as fans of DeGeneres already know, she wasn’t fired from the hosting gig. In fact, Ellen Show premiered this week, and DeGeneres addressed the recent allegations against her and the program.
“As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show. Then there was an investigation. I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously. I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected,” she said.
James Corden continues to host The Late Late Show four times a week.
