James Gunn will surely kill one of his characters sooner or later, and fans theorized that Harley Quinn would be the first one to succumb.
After taking over the Suicide Squad, James Gunn openly announced that no one is safe to him. He also warned that people’s favorite DC characters might die soon.
As the writer and director of Suicide Squad, it is highly likely Gunn will use that power in the second film of the franchise. In addition, he scored the power to use or not any character from the squad.
Prior to the creation of Suicide Squad 2, Warner Bros. asked him to retain Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. The character’s role in the film surely made the studios protect her from Gunn’s death threats. However, it might not last that long.
In a new featurette shared by Warner Bros. Pictures’ official YouTube channel, the filmmaker explained whether he will kill Harley Quinn or not.
“They did say you can kill whoever you want,” Gunn said. “A lot of people think I’m going to kill Harley. You know, who knows?”
Although he looked hyped when he teased the fans about DCEU characters’ deaths, he actually got emotional while planning the deaths of the characters.
“There’s two characters in particular that when they die, I still get teary-eyed every time I watch the movie. It still really kills me,” he said, as quoted by Screenrant.
Margot Robbie’s Stint As Harley Quinn
Robbie’s departure from the franchise is seemingly a long time coming. In fact, the actress disapproved the idea of reprising the role again.
Last month, she revealed to EW her plans in the franchise. According to Robbie, there was a point where she finally realized she needs a break from playing the character because it is exhausting.
Still, she noted that she still does not know what the future holds for the character as she is as intrigued as other cast members.
In addition, the actress did not have an idea about her character’s death which was showed at the end of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
“You pick up one comic and something’s happening and then you pick up the next comic and maybe that character’s not alive, maybe that character’s not with that person, maybe that character looks completely different,” she went on.
Margot Robbie has been portraying the character in three films in the past five years. She already starred in Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and Gunn’s upcoming The Suicide Squad.
