However, it appears that the streaming service is delving into unfamiliar territories. For one, it is planning to release an original anime series in the coming months.

Japan Sinks: 2020 is Netflix’s latest entry to the anime genre. Since anime is a common source of entertainment for a lot of people, it is beyond doubt that the upcoming series will become a major global hit.
Netflix has reportedly ordered ten episodes for the series’ season 1 and will simultaneously drop the episodes in its streaming library on July 9. The platform has already revealed an official trailer of Japan Sinks: 2020. It offers a sneak peek of what to expect on the forthcoming anime franchise.

Series overview
Japan Sinks: 2020 is based on Sakyo Komatsu’s best selling novel Japan Sinks. It revolves around a team of scientists as they attempt to convince the Japanese government that the Japanese archipelago will soon sink.
Meanwhile, Netflix original dystopian-themed show follows the story of the Muto family, whose ordinary life was changed after a strong earthquake struck Japan. They must then learn to live in dangerous times, as the archipelago continues to sink.
Overall, the series looks extremely gripping, with a mix of powerful drama and some amazing-looking scenes of epic destruction.

Japan Sinks: 2020 was helmed by Masaaki Yuasa. He is known for directing Night is Short, Walk on Girl, Devilman Crybaby, Ride Your Wave, and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken.
Yuasa is developing the anime at his Science SARU studio. While Pyeon-Gang Ho is confirmed to helm the series as its director. Toshio Yoshitaka, famous for writing the Dragon Ball Super series, is penning the script. They will work together with Naoya Wada, Ken Hashimoto, Toshikazu Kuno, Eriko Kimura, as well as Kiyoshi Hirose.

Netflix releases latest updates
Netflix recently released more screenshots for Japan Sinks: 2020. Moreover, the network revealed additional cast members for the anime, which include:
- George Cockle as Daniel Zakovic
- Tomoko Shiota as Kanae Murota
- Taichi Takeda as Saburō Ōtani
- Daiki Hamano as Osamu Asada
The aforementioned stars will also join these stars such as Hiroyuki Yoshino (Haruki Koga), Nanako Mori (Nami Miura), Kensho Ono (Kaito) Umeji Sasaki (Kunio Ashida).
