Jennifer Aniston almost lost ‘Friends’ due to weight issues, book claims

Jennifer Aniston became a household name due to her role as Rachel Green on NBC’s sitcom Friends, but the iconic role almost slipped through her fingers, according to a book.

Jennifer Aniston gained true friends and loyal fans in her sitcom Friends, which ran for ten seasons. However, it wasn’t easy for her to grab the role because she was allegedly too heavy at the time.

Jennifer Aniston catapulted to fame when she played the role of Rachel Green on Friends. However, according to Saul Austerlitz’s book Generation Friends: An Inside Look at the Show that Defined a Television Era her weight became an issue at the time.

“She had to lose thirty pounds if she wanted to stay in Hollywood. Los Angeles was a tough place to be an actress — it was a tough place to be a woman — and Jennifer Aniston’s agent was reluctantly leveling with her,” Austerlitz wrote.

“Aniston was hardly fat — everyone could see she was beautiful — but as the show she would one day become indelibly associated with later made a point of noting, the camera added ten pounds.”

Aniston opened up about her unhealthy lifestyle

Jennifer Aniston is one of the most beautiful faces in Hollywood today, even if she’s already 51. However, when she was younger, she admitted that she wasn’t critical with her diet.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in 1996, Brad Pitt’s ex-wife said she ate too many mayonnaise sandwiches. For Aniston, mayonnaise on white bread was the “most delicious thing in the world.”

Since she wasn’t getting job offers, she became more careful about her lifestyle, including her diet. Aniston made a 180-degree turn when it comes to her eating habits.

Friends alum has lived a healthier lifestyle

In another interview, Jennifer Aniston said that she wants to remain vibrant when she turns 80 years old. Her dad, John Aniston, is still active, but for her, she believes that he could still be “a little healthier.” She joked that her father would be mad when he learns about what she said.

Aniston went on and shared how she keeps herself in shape. According to her, it’s more about what you put insider your body. Aniston also practices intermittent fasting.

“It’s about just knowing what you put inside your body, exercising — my father, never, ever — they didn’t know you could keep your bones strong, never mind being fit and fitting into a size-whatever,” Aniston said.
