Jennifer Aniston catapulted to fame after starring as Rachel Green in Friends. The actress admitted it was not easy for the people to let her move on from the said character.
Jennifer Aniston admitted that her role on NBC’s hit American sitcom was both a blessing and a curse. The actress shared how she was typecast as Rachel Green.
Jennifer Aniston being typecast as Rachel Green
Jennifer Aniston was among the few celebrities who get to enjoy a series that lasted for a decade. Her TV series Friends lasted for 10 seasons and ran from 1994 to 2004.
Thus, it wasn’t very surprising for fans to still see her as Rachel Green even after the series wrapped up.
“I could not get Rachel Green off of my back for the life of me,” The Morning Show star told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday.
“I could not escape Rachel from Friends, just Rachel from Friends, it’s on all the time and you’re just like, ‘Stop playing this [explicit] show.’ I completely just fought with myself and who I was in this industry forever because it was just constantly about trying to prove I was more than that.”
How Aniston broke the mold
According to Brad Pitt’s ex-wife, she was able to move on from Rachel Green’s character when she played the role of Justine Last in “The Good Girl.”
She found the experience a huge “relief” and, at the same time, “terrifying.”
“But I remember the panic that set over me, thinking, ‘Oh God, I don’t know if I can do this,” Aniston said.
“So, I was almost doing it for myself just to see if I could do something other than that. And it was terrifying because you’re doing it in front of the world.”
‘Friends’ Reunion special in the works
Even if Jennifer Aniston’s hit sitcom Friends already wrapped up over 15 years ago, many are still eager to see the cast together.
Aside from Aniston, the other main cast in the sitcom includes Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.
A Friends reunion is already in the works. Aniston and her castmate were supposed to film the special last May. However, the production decided to push it back due to the coronavirus pandemic.
There are rumors that Aniston is pulling out from the reunion. However, that was not true. Aniston has maintained a close friendship with the rest of the cast, and everyone is joining the reunion.
According to Bob Greenblatt, Warner Media Entertainment, and Direct-to-Consumer chairman, they want to finish filming by the end of summer.
