Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins has just revealed that the theatrical cut of Justice League defied Gal Gadot’s character completely.
According to Gamesradar, Wonder Woman 1984’s director Patty Jenkins recently had an interaction with Cinema Blend. And speaking on the Amazonian superhero, she shared some thoughts about her depiction in 2017’s Justice League. She said that Gal Gadot’s character wasn’t true to what she was in her debut film three years ago. And also in the upcoming sequel to the DC blockbuster.
Jenkins clearly said that her version of Diana Prince wasn’t there in the Justice League, which faced a lot of criticism upon release.
“I think that all of us DC directors tossed that out just as much as the fans did.”
Patty Jenkins speaks on her version
The filmmaker said that seeing Diana in JL was totally different because she didn’t fit in that movie as the hero that she actually was.
“I felt that that version contradicted my first movie in many ways, and this current movie, which I was already in production on.”
“So then, what are you going to do? I was like,… you would have to play ball in both directions for that to work.”
However, she expressed positive thoughts for director Zack Snyder. It’s because he wasn’t actually involved with the first JL installment due to a personal tragedy.
“The only thing I have done, and have always tried to do, is – I knew when Zack was doing Justice League, where she sort of ends up. So I always tried… like, I didn’t change her suit, because I never want to… I don’t want to contradict his films, you know?”
She added that at the end of the day, she wants to have her own film. While praising Snyder, Patty Jenkins also said that, all in all, the first Justice League was a mess.
“And so, I think that Justice League was an outlier. They were trying to turn one thing into, kind of, another. And so then it becomes, ‘I don’t recognize half of these characters. I’m not sure what’s going on.'”
Upcoming movies in DCEU
Meanwhile, the upcoming installments from Warner Bros. under DC comics seem exciting for the fans. However, the movie universe has been quite unstable; it’s managing to lift itself in the coming years. Upcoming films like WW84, by Patty Jenkins, and Snyder Cut of Justice League have hyped the viewers. Future slate also includes Shazam 2, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, The Flash, and Aquaman 2. The latter is yet to receive an official announcement.
