John Wick 5 has been confirmed, and Keanu Reeves is set to film the fourth and fifth sequel consecutively. The shoot will start as soon as the 55-year-old actor is ready to work early next year.
Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer personally delivered the good news about John Wick 5. He revealed their plans for the movie series during the company’s earnings call that took place on Aug. 6.
“We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchise, with John Wick 4 slated to hit theatres Memorial Day weekend 2022,” Deadline quoted Feltheimer as saying.
“We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 & 5 back to back when Keanu becomes available early next year.”
Chapter 4 was postponed and here’s the new release date
John Wick: Chapter 4 was originally scheduled to be released in May 2021 however, the date was moved because of the COVID-19 crisis. The new premiere date of the fourth movie has been set to May 27, 2022.
If there is something good that comes out of this delay, it is the fact that it will not clash with another Keanu Reeves movie which is the Matrix 4.
This is the project that the actor needs to finish before he could start filming the fourth and fifth installments of the John Wick movie.
Movie director drops spoilers for the chapter 4 sequel
Director Chad Stahelski previously shared that they will be borrowing some scenes in the movie’s Chapter 3 – Parabellum sequel.
He said they would include action sequences that were not used as there was no more room for them in the third film.
“There were two action sequences that we had really kind of conceived but we just didn’t have room for them,” Cinemablend quoted the director as saying.
“So, we pulled them from the movie and I’d like to think that 90 percent of what I pulled, there’s a place in John Wick 4 that I can definitely reinsert them.”
Meanwhile, Feltheimer also said that Lionsgate is slowly moving to get back into movie production. The coronavirus pandemic is far from over, so they thought of ways and strategies to make sure that everyone will be safe at all times.
The Lionsgate CEO went on to reveal the flicks that they will be producing soon. Aside from John Wick 5, he also confirmed the third Dirty Dancing movie with Jennifer Grey.
Other movies that are in their filming schedule lineup include The Devil’s Light and Nicolas Cage’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
