There are a lot of issues surrounding Johnny Depp due to his messy divorce with Amber Heard. So, Penelope Cruz tried to clear his name by talking about their time together.
The two worked together for the films, Blow (2011), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011), and Murder on the Orient Express (2017).
The Spanish actress opened up about their friendship in a deposition she filed in the defamation case against Amber Heard.
According to The Blast, the 46-year-old star met the Edward Scissorhands actor when she was only 19 in Madrid. At the time, the Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar introduced them to each other.
“The only sentences I knew how to say in English at that time were, ‘how are you’ and ‘I want to work with Johnny Depp,'” she revealed.
To counter Amber Heard’s claim that Johnny Depp was an abuser, Penelope Cruz described him as a guy who is “always kind to everyone around.” “I’ve seen Johnny in so many situations,” she said. “He is one of the most generous people I know.”
The model also revealed that the 56-year-old actor supported her while they were doing Pirates of the Caribbean.
“During six months of my first pregnancy, I spent every single day with him while we shot Pirates of the Caribbean,” she continued. “My husband and I will never forget the sweetness, protection, and kindness he treated me with during every single step of that process.”
Penelope Cruz’s husband, Javier Bardem, also worked together with Johnny Depp. They have been together in the most recent Pirates of the Caribbean film, Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Amid the rumors surrounding the actor, the couple finds themselves lucky to be friends with Johnny Depp.
Cinema Blend noted that Penelope Cruz’s revelation came after Wynona Rider also spoke on behalf of Johnny Depp.
As part of the defamation lawsuit, the Stranger Things star revealed the musician was “never, never violent” toward her. The two worked together for the movie Edward Scissorhands and had been engaged for three years.
Amber Heard accused Johnny Depp of being abusive during their relationship. The latter then filed a defamation lawsuit against his former wife in March 2019 after the Aquaman star’s editor piece damaged his career, resulting in losing his role in Pirates of the Caribbean.
