Johnny Depp’s libel case against The Sun will go to trial starting next Tuesday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a British judge decided that the actor’s libel case can go ahead after The Sun called Johnny Depp a wife-beater. Depp has since denied the allegations. And he filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against the tabloid.
“In my view, it would not be just to strike out the claim. Despite the breach that I have found, I am not persuaded that the trial of the claim would be unfair,” the judge said.
Johnny Depp breach accusations
The Sun’s legal team previously argued that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor breached a court order because he failed to provide the text messages between him and his assistant.
They claimed that the text messages sent between February and March 2015 saw Depp trying to get a hold of drugs while staying in Australia with Amber Heard. It was then that an alleged incident of domestic abuse took place.
Amber Heard files a lawsuit against Johnny Depp
In 2016, the Aquaman actress filed a lawsuit against Depp. And she also accused her ex-husband of domestic abuse. However, Depp has been adamant at saying that Heard was the abusive one in their relationship.
Just recently, Heard seemingly admitted to physically abusing Depp in a leaked audiotape from 2015.
“I can’t promise I won’t get physical again, I get so mad I lose it,” she said.
And during a therapy session, Heard seemingly admitted to hurting her ex-husband.
“I don’t know that the motion of my actual hand was, but you’re fine, I did not hurt you, I did not punch you, I was hitting you,” she said.
Johnny Depp allegedly threatened to set a painting on fire
Daily Mail recently reported about an alleged incident that took place between Heard and Depp in 2013.
Heard’s ex-girlfriend, Tasya van Ree gave the actress a painting, and she hung it up on the wall. When Depp saw the artwork, he was, reportedly, enraged.
The Edward Scissorhands star, reportedly, tried to set the painting on fire. And Depp also, reportedly, hit Heard so hard that blood on her lip ended up on the wall.
Depp, allegedly, shook Heard so hard and shoved his ex-wife on the wall. And the actor, reportedly, referred to the incident in his text message as a “disco bloodbath.”
“The signed painting was hanging by her bed. The claimant asked Ms. Heard, as a courtesy, if she would move the painting somewhere else,” the team of Johnny Depp explained.
