Johnny Depp was, reportedly, always late on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean. As such, a staff was assigned to monitor his every move.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Depp didn’t have any idea that a production staff was staking outside his home in an unmarked vehicle. The staff was, reportedly, tasked to alert the people on the set once Depp is awake.
“When he got up, he’d turn on the light, and the moment the light went on they’d call the line producer, who would then call the directors [Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg]: ‘He’s up! He’s getting ready!’ They even had a special code term like ‘The eagle has landed.’ Johnny had no idea this was going on,” a source said.
Johnny Depp reportedly caused a lot of problems on the set of his movie
According to reports, Depp caused a lot of problems while he was filming for Dead Men Tell No Tales. There was a time when the production had to stop because Depp badly injured his finger.
The injury was recently mentioned in Depp’s court hearing against The Sun and NGN. The actor initially claimed that it was Amber Heard that injured his finger. But his text messages to his doctor revealed that Depp said that he was the one who injured his finger.
Johnny was reportedly an over spender
Other than this, there were a lot of times when Depp arrived late on the set. And there were claims that he was constantly boozing even while they were filming.
There were also concerns about the actor’s spending. Depp’s former business managers said that they confronted him about his spending habits.
The Edward Scissorhands actor, reportedly, spent $30,000 a month on wine. Depp also admitted to paying $5 million to shoot his late friend’s ashes out of a cannon.
Sean Bailey, Disney production chief, revealed that he and producer Jerry Bruckheimer had to figure out ways how to film around Depp’s character when he’s late. At one point, they also confronted the actor but his behavior didn’t improve.
“There were certainly days when our plans were challenged. But no one should underestimate Johnny’s passion and commitment to his character and franchise,” Bailey said.
Johnny Depp allegedly didn’t memorize his lines
Years ago, Depp sued his former business managers for fraud and for mismanaging his money. The Management Group then filed a countersuit against the actor.
According to the court documents (via BBC), Depp’s lines were fed to him via an earpiece so that he wouldn’t have to memorize them.
“Depp insisted that this sound engineer be kept on yearly retainer so that he no longer had to memorize his lines,” the document read.
The actor’s team denies the allegations
However, Depp’s lawyer, Adam Waldman denied the allegations by calling them psychobabble.
“This is how guilty people respond when confronted with the detailed results of a nine-month legal and forensic investigation conducted by four firms,” Waldman said.
Johnny Depp continues to appear in court following his lawsuit against the British publication. And he will face Heard in court in January for the defamation case that he filed.
