Johnny Depp keeps his feet on the ground, not considering himself a “Hollywood celebrity,” no matter how famous he is.
It can’t be denied that Johnny Depp is one of the most famous actors in the world. He is an A-list star and the most successful in his own right. But despite these feats, he likes to remain humble.
Depp praised San Sebastian Film Festival
Depp graced the 2020 San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain. He made himself safe from coronavirus by wearing a black face mask and sunglasses that almost covered his entire face.
He attended the event to promote the documentary Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds With Shane MacGowan, which he produced.
“This festival always has the least of… let’s call them Hollywood types,” he told Variety. “I feel San Sebastian is truly a festival about cinema, about the filmmakers, about the people who work on them and get these films made, which is miraculous.”
Despite his fame, Depp revealed he didn’t want to be identified as a “Hollywood celebrity.”
“First and most important is to never consider yourself a Hollywood celebrity. That’s death and grotesque,” he revealed. “I’ve always been drawn to… people who are diligent in remaining themselves.”

Depp showed a glimpse of his point of view in life
Meanwhile, Cinemablend noted that Depp’s comment about Hollywood celebrity status just showed his perspective in life.
His role as Captain Jack Sparrow might have come to an end, but he is still part of several major blockbuster films. He is set to reprise his role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3, which filming already resumed.
But despite being involved in several hit films, he still didn’t see himself as a big celebrity. A lot of celebrity aspirants wanted to be a big star like Depp.
It is also hard to find people who remain to be themselves despite fame and influence nowadays.
There might be some, like Winona Ryder, Vanessa Paradis, Javier Bardem, and Penelope Cruz. These people all came to his defense amid his legal battle against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
Although they are all big household names today, they may never think of themselves as Hollywood celebrities like Depp.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s legal battle continues and will resume next year. Anyhow, life will also continue for the 57-year-old actor as he will once again hit the big screen on the release of Fantastic Beasts 3 on Nov. 12, 2021.
