Helene Bonham Carter used to collaborate with her former husband, Tim Burton. She appeared in seven of his best films, but she revealed it was never always “harmonious.” So, to whom he works best? It is with, none other than, Johnny Depp.
Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton, and Johnny Depp worked together in the 2007 musical film Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. But instead of listening to his wife, the famed gothic, fantasy, and horror director listened to Amber Heard’s ex-husband instead.
Working for Sweeney Todd
In an interview on the Grounded with Louis Theroux podcast, the 53-year-old actress recalled the times he worked with her former husband. The two divorced in 2014.
Although she didn’t deny that they had a fun relationship, working on Sweeney Todd together was hard. At the time, they were working with the 61-year-old’s often collaborator, Johnny Depp.
Helena Bonham Carter admitted that she and Tim Burton “came a cropper” because they were both “out of their depths.”
“I’d never sung before, he had never done a musical, and it’s that classic thing that you take your stress out on the person who you know best, and we really didn’t get on during that one,” she said, via Daily Mail. “Amazingly, I got pregnant, but let’s not get into that.”
Although Tim Burton is known for being weird due to his movies’ theme, his ex-wife described him as a hilarious man. They even had a lot of laughs when they were together, but there were times that they were not working harmoniously with one another.
His closeness to Johnny Depp seemed even to make their relationship worse. “Basically, Tim and Johnny are very shy – I don’t think people realize that. Johnny was caught in the middle,” Helena Bonham Carter said. “In the end, I realized I shouldn’t really have any good ideas.”
The Harry Potter star revealed that whenever she had a good idea for the film, she had to tell it to the 56-year-old actor. He would then tell it to Tim Burton and her once crap idea would become perfect. “If I mentioned it, it would be an absolutely crap idea – we worked our way through it,” she added.

The most famous pop culture collaborators
One of the most famous collaborators of pop culture is Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. They always seem to work harmoniously. According to The Spool, it looks like no one can even match the bond they have.
The animator also has other muses, like his ex-girlfriend Lisa Marie, but it seems to feel a little obligatory for him. He only gave her small roles, such as standing around and looking kind of scary.
It is a far cry from his collaboration with Johnny Depp. When they work together, they develop his characters with both of their ideas, working skillfully. He is never Tim Burton’s puppet. They work equally, like business partners, incite but their beliefs that they are both Hollywood “outsiders” despite their success.
