According to Page Six, the court revealed on the fourth day of the trial that the two women would appear at London’s High Court. Johnny Depp is suing the British newspaper The Sun over its 2018 published article that named him a wife-beater.
Sky News reported that the Stranger Things star and the French singer would appear through a video link. These two previously gave their own statements as a sign of support to the 57-year-old actor.
Ryder and Paradis firmly said that the Pirates of the Caribbean star never hurt or even violent toward them.
Ryder and the Hollywood Vampires’ band member used to be engaged for three years, from 1990 to 1993. They first met in 1989, when they were about to make Edward Scissorhands.
At the time, the actress was only 17 while he was 26. They had been together for four years before they called off their engagement.
The 46-year-old actress will appear in the High Court via a video link on Wednesday, July 15. The Times reported that she would talk about her relationship with Johnny Depp.
Here, she may prove her earlier statement that he was “never abusive or violent” toward her. In fact, Ryder said she was an “extremely caring guy.”
“I counted him as my best friend, and as close to me as family,” she wrote in her statement. “I obviously was not there during his marriage to Amber, but, from my experience, which was so wildly different, I was absolutely shocked, confused, and upset when I heard the accusations against him.”
“The idea that he is an incredibly violent person is the farthest thing from the Johnny I knew and loved,” Ryder added. “I cannot wrap my head around these accusations … I felt so very, very safe with him.”
Daily Mail noted that Paradis and Johnny Depp parted ways in 2012 after 14 years of being together. They have two kids, Lily Rose, 21, and Jack, 18.
They never tied the knot but remained on good terms. They are also good friends and even spent last Christmas together in Paris with their kids.
The Sun’s lawyers, reportedly, tried to block Ryder and Paradis’ appearance in the court. They, allegedly, didn’t see the relevance of them giving evidence about the case.
Amber Heard will also take the stand this week as Johnny Depp’s libel case against The Sun continues.
