Joseph Gordon-Levitt returns to Hollywood after long hiatus

Joseph Gordon-Levitt took a break from acting four years ago.

After dedicating himself in the acting space since 1988, Joseph Gordon-Levitt surprisingly took a hiatus after his 2016 film, Snowden. The actor did not share the reason why he took a break. But, he has recently broken his silence about it.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 39-year-old actor touched on several subjects, including his upcoming projects, as well as his two-year break. As stated, it was due to personal reasons.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt did not want to stop acting

Joseph Gordon-Levitt started his career in 1988. Since then, he has already worked on numerous projects from small screens to the big screens.

The publication asserted that from 2005 to 2016, he became a part of “at least one well-regarded movie” every year. When asked whether this has something to do with his decision to take a break, the actor clarified that it was not.

He said that he did not want to stop acting nor working. Rather, he, reportedly, wanted to spend time with his kids. To date, he has two kids with his wife, Tasha McCauley.

7500 – New film out today on @amazonprimevideo. First movie I've come out in since 2016! Took some time off when I had kids, and for my first acting job back, I really wanted to find a unique creative challenge. The director, Patrick Vollrath's shooting style is different than anything I’d done before, highly geared towards the actors being able to fully immerse themselves in the story. We wouldn't stick to script, wouldn't stick to marks, would just leave the camera rolling and stay in character for these long stretches of time. It was extremely challenging, but deeply rewarding. Gonna be honest, this is not a popcorn movie to put on and chill out. It’s an emotional exploration of a controversial and often oversimplified narrative involving prejudice, extremism, and how the dehumanization of “others” can perpetuate a tragic circle of violence. If you're in the mood for something artier, something intense, I think you'll appreciate this one. I'm really proud of it.

He now returns to acting with three major projects

During the interview, Joseph Gordon-Levitt also shared about his career before and after the two-year hiatus. As revealed, he used to work on three movies per year. But, after his break, he now, reportedly, has shot “one a year.”

In late 2017, he said that he shot 7500. The Amazon Prime Video original film became his first major project upon his return. This just recently made into the screens, and reportedly garnered “warm reception” from critics, according to Cheat Sheet.

The following year, Gordon-Levitt filmed Project Power. Reports noted that it is a Netflix Original film, which will arrive on the platform in August.

In 2019, he worked on The Trial of the Chicago 7. As noted, it is a courtroom drama film, which is now in post-production. The actor, later on, said that it would make its way onto the big screens later this year.

He and Tasha McCauley tied the knot in 2014

The actor has always remained “tight-lipped” about his personal life. In his previous interview, he, reportedly, asserted that his partner does not want to be part of the spotlight.

In 2014, Joseph Gordon-Levitt married Tasha McCauley, who is a businesswoman and robotics expert, according to Today. The wedding was, reportedly, an intimate ceremony. They welcomed their first child a year after, and another in 2017.
